What are rosacea in men?
Rosacea also affects many men, although it is often underdiagnosed in this population — men consult less frequently for skin aesthetic concerns. It manifests as persistent or recurrent redness mainly in the center of the face — cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead — and can progress over time if left untreated.
In men, rosacea can be associated with telangiectasia — small dilated blood vessels visible under the skin, frequently observed on the nose and cheeks. Male skin, generally thicker and oilier (more sebaceous), can react differently to triggers and requires adapted treatment parameters.
Both conditions can evolve over time and impact facial appearance and self-confidence in professional and social contexts. Although there is no cure, targeted medical approaches can significantly help reduce the appearance of redness and visible vessels.
Several technologies can be considered depending on your skin phototype, the type of rosacea present, and your individual goals. A prior medical evaluation is essential.
Addressed Concerns
- Sun exposure and frequent shaving
- Alcohol and spicy food
- Genetic predisposition
- Chronic professional stress
- Temperature extremes
- Smoking
Treatment options
Treatment options for rosacea in men?
Three medical approaches, each tailored to specific rosacea profiles and skin types.
IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
Photorejuvenation Treatment
IPL uses broad-spectrum light to simultaneously target vascular and pigmentary components — an effective approach for men with diffuse redness combined with sun-related photoaging signs.
- Diffuse redness and telangiectasias
- Also treats sun spots
- Generally short recovery time
Fotona FRAC3® Laser
Non-Ablative Laser Treatment
The FRAC3® laser delivers targeted thermal micro-stimulations adapted to the characteristics of male skin, promoting skin renewal and reducing rosacea redness.
- Diminishes rosacea redness
- Improves skin tone uniformity
- Parameters adapted to male skin
Vascular Laser
VASCULAR THERAPY
TARGETED
Vascular lasers precisely target visible dilated vessels through selective absorption by hemoglobin — particularly effective for well-defined vessels on the nose and cheeks.
- Precise targeting of defined vessels
- Progressive reduction in appearance
- Ideal for localized telangiectasias
Our Recommendation
Choosing the most appropriate approach
The choice between IPL, FRAC3® laser, or vascular laser depends on several factors that our doctors will evaluate during your free consultation:
The type of rosacea present (erythematous, vascular, or mixed)
Presence or absence of clearly defined visible vessels
Your phototype and skin sensitivity
The available recovery time
Your personal aesthetic goals
For male patients, treatment parameters are systematically adapted to account for the specific characteristics of male skin — notably its greater thickness and sebaceous composition. A medical evaluation is essential to establish the optimal protocol.

IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
① How It Works
IPL uses broad-spectrum pulsed light selectively absorbed by vascular and pigmentary targets responsible for facial redness. The light energy simultaneously targets dilated vessels and irregular pigments, causing controlled coagulation of the vessels and gradually reducing redness and spots.
In male patients — whose skin is generally thicker — settings are adjusted to ensure optimal penetration and efficacy. IPL is particularly well-suited for men presenting with diffuse redness combined with accumulated sun damage, which is common in men who have rarely protected their skin over the years.

Session
3 to 5 recommanded
② What to Expect
Sessions last between 20 and 45 minutes. A mild warming sensation and brief snapping sensations may be felt during the pulses — generally well tolerated. Mild post-treatment redness is possible and resolves within a few hours.
A series of 3 to 5 sessions is generally recommended. Sun avoidance and sun protection are essential before and after treatment. Male patients who shave must avoid shaving the treated areas for 24 hours.
Ideal for:
- Diffuse redness and sun damage
- Male skin with light or medium phototype
- Rosacea with pigment spots
- Active patients with minimal downtime
③ Results
Results develop gradually over several weeks, with continuous improvement throughout the complete series.
Visible reduction in redness
Improved skin tone uniformity
Fotona FRAC3® Laser
① How It Works
Fotona’s FRAC3® laser delivers controlled thermal micro-stimulations to specific areas of the skin. This selective heat promotes natural skin renewal and gradually reduces rosacea-related redness. Being non-ablative, the skin surface remains intact throughout the treatment — an important advantage for male patients whose professional daily lives do not allow for extended downtime.
For male patients, treatment parameters are adapted to account for generally thicker skin, ensuring effective stimulation at appropriate depths.

Series recommended
② What to Expect
Sessions last 30 to 45 minutes and can easily fit into a busy schedule. A progressive warming sensation is felt — generally well tolerated.
Mild redness may occur after treatment and usually resolves within a few hours. Male patients who shave can resume shaving the very next day.
Ideal for:
- Thick or sebaceous male skin
- Redness with texture irregularities
- Busy schedule — minimal downtime
- Complement to other laser treatments
③ Results
Results are generally more pronounced than those of fractional treatment. Results continue to evolve over several months after treatment.
An improvement in redness
A major reduction in sun damage
An improvement in skin tone uniformity
An improvement in certain texture irregularities
Vascular Laser
① How It Works
Vascular lasers emit wavelengths selectively absorbed by oxyhemoglobin in targeted blood vessels. This absorption generates heat within the vessel, causing controlled damage to its wall and triggering its gradual closure and natural reabsorption.
Surrounding tissues are preserved. In male patients, vessels on the nose and cheeks are particularly common and can be significantly reduced with this targeted approach.

② What to Expect
Sessions last 20 to 40 minutes. A snapping sensation may be felt during the pulses. Mild redness and minor bruising may occur and generally resolve within a few days.
Male patients who shave must avoid shaving the treated areas during the healing period. The number of sessions depends on the extent of the vessels and individual response.
Ideal for:
- Clearly defined vessels
- Telangiectasias on the nose and cheeks
- Vascular subtype of rosacea
- Targeted localized treatment
③ Results
Results develop progressively over several weeks to months as collagen renews.
This option is particularly well-suited for patients wishing for gradual improvements with minimal recovery.
Treated vessels fade gradually over 4 to 8 weeks
A significant reduction in visible blood vessels after 1 to 3 sessions
Very effective improvement for well-defined individual vessels
